Future: Transportation investments for a rapidly expanding population
To ease congestion that comes with a rapidly expanding population, NOVA is investing in driving technologically innovative approaches. More than $15 billion in fully funded and planned multimodal improvements have been implemented or will be completed in the next three years.
In 2017, Virginia and its local partners committed to $765 million in new transportation investments to enhance the networks already in place in Arlington and Alexandria. These investments focus on metro stations, pedestrian access, Route 1, rail and gateway extensions, surface transit facilities, and multi-modal street/corridor connectivity.
