The Danville Community College Regional Center for Advanced Training and Technology (RCATT) is a 24,000-sq.-ft. facility that provides workforce development training in factory automation and robotics. Programs include mechatronics, robotics, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC programming, and electronics.
Institute for Advanced Learning and Research
The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) engages the resources of Virginia Tech, Danville Community College, Averett University, and other partners to grow innovation and stimulate economic opportunity. IALR is home to the 51,000-sq.-ft. Center for Manufacturing Advancement (CMA), which offers a platform to assist manufacturing companies establishing or expanding their presence in Southern Virginia.
Global Center For Automotive Performance & Simulation (GCAPS)
Located near Danville, and an affiliate of Virginia Tech, GCAPS is home to 45+ researchers in state-of-the-art facilities. Since 2012, GCAPS has supported over 100 global companies with independent simulation, testing, and research to complement or supplement activities performed by global vehicle manufacturers, tire manufacturers, and suppliers.
Great Opportunities in Technology and Engineering Careers
The Great Opportunities in Technology and Engineering Careers program (GO TEC) introduces Southern Virginia students to advanced manufacturing careers as early as middle school. Each lab promotes engagement in topics including precision machining, welding, information technology and cybersecurity, robotics, automation, mechatronics, and advanced materials, with flexibility to meet a region’s specific needs.
